Recent Activities

The Croatian Ergonomics Society (CES) was established in 1974. The main activities of CES are: promoting implementation of ergonomics into professional practice in Croatia, introducing the subject of ergonomics into the educational system in Croatia, encouraging research work within the field of ergonomics, connecting with ergonomic societies abroad, organizing conferences within the field of ergonomics and co-organizing, supporting or endorsing conferences in Croatia (8th Congress of the Alps Adria Acoustics Association, Zagreb, 2018; 4th International Professional and Scientific Conference Safety and Health, Zadar, 2012.) and abroad (Third International Conference Ergo 2018: Human Factors in Complex Technical Systems and Environments, St. Petersburg, Russia, 2018.) which contain groups of topics from the field of ergonomics.
In May 2014, CES celebrated its 40th anniversary. Anniversary conference took place at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Zagreb where CES was founded. This was an excellent opportunity to present the current research and professional activities of the CES members. The celebration was enhanced with the presence of the then IEA president, Professor Eric Min-Yang Wang.

Until now, CES has organized seven international ergonomics conferences every three years since 2001, and from 2016 every two years. The conferences are great opportunity for all participants and all stakeholders to contribute to a valuable exchange of knowledge and experience, to encourage stronger interconnections between science and business, as well as a great way to open up new possibilities, meet old and make new friends, and contribute to advances in ergonomics in Croatia. Last conference ERGONOMICS 2018 – Emphasis on Wellbeing was a joint project with Ergonomics Society of Taiwan, Chinese Ergonomics Society, Hong Kong Ergonomics Society, Russian Inter-Regional Ergonomics Association, and three faculties from University of Zagreb - Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture and Faculty of Textile Technology. Furthermore, ERGONOMICS 2018 – Emphasis on Wellbeing was endorsed by IEA, Federation of the European Ergonomics Societies and Acoustical Society of Croatia. More than 70 papers had been submitted, and after the review process, 50 papers were presented at the Conference in oral or poster sessions. The presented papers were published in the Conference Book of Proceedings which is in the Scopus submission process. The participants, who took part in the conference, were from 23 different countries. The following invited speakers have contributed with their lectures: Denis Coelho (Portugal), Maggie Graf (Switzerland), Eric Min-Yang Wang (Taiwan) and Uwe Reischl (USA). At the end of the Conference, the day-long CREE(Centre for Registration of European Ergonomists)–IEA–FEES workshop "An Approach to Growing Ergonomics in Europe" was held as a part of training in Professional Affairs for CREE certification.

In July 2018, president of the CES Davor Sumpor attended the Third International Conference Ergo-2018: Human Factors in Complex Technical Systems and Environments (Saint Petersburg, Russia) and held a presentation with the theme “Ergonomics in Croatia". Then the IEA/FEES/ABERGO/ERY/MET/CES/ESSA/IREA meeting was held, and proposal of the Memorandum of cooperation between six national ergonomics societies was prepared.
